Mary Fowler
Football
There’s something about Mary.
At just 21 years of age, Mary Fowler is the next-gen of global football icons whose star continues to rise.
Having been instrumental in securing a spot for the Matildas ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, it’s clear that the Fowler effect is in play both on and off the pitch.
Following her phenomenal performance in last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2023 saw Mary become the second most Googled Australian, by Australians, and also earn the ranking of one of Australia’s top 5 most marketable and influential athletes by ESPN. The Daily Telegraph named Mary ‘the most influential woman in Australian sport.’
Known for her exceptional talent and versatility on the field, Fowler discovered her passion for the sport at a young age and has since made significant strides in her career.
Born with Papua New Guinean and Irish roots, Mary’s cultural heritage influences her game both on the international stage representing the Matildas and her club team, Manchester City in the UK.
Mary is the total embodiment of everything Gen-Z girls and women stand for. Her natural talent and dedication quickly caught the attention of scouts, and at just 15 years of age, Mary made her international debut and spent the majority of her teenage years being touted as ‘the next Sam Kerr’.
Technically gifted with the ability to not only play midfield and forward, but also with both feet, Mary is a powerful and creative player who possesses a rare combination of speed, technical ability, and tactical intelligence, making her a valuable asset to both her club and country.
Fowler’s breakthrough moment came in 2018 when she made her senior debut for the Matildas, and since then, she has continued to impress with her performances on the international stage, earning praise for her fearlessness and maturity beyond her years.
Update text to: Fast forward to 2024, and the young but accomplished 21 year old has played in not one, but two FIFA Women’s World Cups, and has already represented Australia at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics.
